Checkmate and BRE LPCB Approval

Checkmate Fire are founder members of the BRE Fire Protection Certification Scheme. The BRE Approval Process involves a whole series of rigorous on-going checks and it is because of this assessment process that the LPCB Approval Mark is recognised worldwide as a badge of quality for Passive Fire Protection Installation.

Checkmate have a close relationship with the industry's leading manufacturers, including British Gypsum, Fermacell, Firestopit, Firetherm, Fireus, Hilti, Knauf, W&J Leigh, Lorient, Nullifire, Promat, Quelfire and Rockwool, and actively involve industry partners in Quality Assurance procedures, and training, to ensure site-specific systems are designed and installed within the scope of relevant fire tests.

As a fire protection company Checkmate consider a building's fire integrity to be of fundamental importance and welcome the responsibility, in tandem with other subcontractors, of ensuring that the correct fire protection is achieved and certified.

In conjunction with Wintech, who are UKAS Accredited and members of the ATTMA, Checkmate also provide the confidence and assurance that air leakage testing is undertaken to the highest standard.

We work closely with the UKAS Accredited Wintech Engineering Ltd, who will ultimately test and certify the building to prove compliance. This benefits the main contractor by reducing the cost of testing (re-testing) and as a consequence minimising the potential difficulty in meeting performance.

“If a fire separating element is to be effective, every joint and imperfection of fit, or opening to allow services to pass through the element, should be adequately protected by sealing or firestopping so that the fire resistance of the element is not impaired”.

“Every compartment wall and compartment floor should form a complete barrier to fire between the compartments they separate and have the appropriate fire resistance” ..... there should be continuity at the junctions of the fire-resisting elements enclosing a compartment and any openings from one compartment to another should not present a weakness”.

Approved Regulation 7 - Building Regulations document

This is the current edition of Approved Document 7 - Material and workmanship, This edition has a new look and has been totally redesigned to make reading and navigation easier by using a single column format. There are no new technical requirements.

This edition has been updated to reflect the full implementation of European Regulation 305/2011/EU-CPR covering construction products, referred to as the Construction Products Regulation, from 1 July 2013. This Regulation requires that products covered by a harmonised European product standard of conforming to a European Technical Assessment should normally have CE marking.
